Blackburn United still searching for first point despite spirited performance at Hill of Beath Hawthorn

Blackburn United are still searching for their first point of the season but it was a much improved performances as they went down 2-1 at Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

After a bright start to the game the visitors fell behind on 15 minutes as Joseph Kirby fired home from close range before Jake Mitchell headed over from a corner.

United looked certain to level things up on the half hour but a Laurie Devine cross was just out of the reach of an unmarked Stuart McLeod.

The Burnie would be dealt a further blow before the break as Kyle McLung’s rash challenge resulted in Lyle Kellichan slotting home a penalty to double the Haws’ lead.

A bright end to the first half didn’t result in a Blackburn goal, though, with both James Mildren and Justin Watson going close.

The deficit would be reduced just nine minutes after the restart when Kris Goss saw his flick-on sliced wildly over his own keeper’s head from Russell Grierson for an own goal.

Both sides would go onto squander further chances with the away side throwing everything at it in the closing stages but unable to find an equaliser.

Stuart Hall brilliantly tipped over a David Howe piledriver to ensure the hosts kept all three points.
