Blackburn United F.C help West Lothian Foodbank

A community-minded football club donated a van full of items to West Lothian Foodbank.

Blackburn United 2007s have been arranging foodbank collections for two years.

But all their teams – boys, girls and ladies as well as the East of Scotland League side – held a club-wide appeal in November.

President Ian McGinty said: “Our coach development officer Brian Smillie suggested that we open the collection out to a wider audience within the community.

“This we did over the course of a week, culminating in the seniors home game against Newtongrange Star and, thanks to the hard work of Gillian Clarke and Kerrie Macmillan amongst many others and to the generosity of so many people in and around the club, we were delighted to hand over such a volume of much-needed food and other important goods to the West Lothian Foodbank.”

The club handed over 597.8kg of food, equivalent to 1423 meals.
