Blackburn Rovers vs Leeds United prediction: Pablo Hernandez backed to score first

Leeds United face a six-pointer against play-off outsiders Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have picked up a win, draw and loss since the restart but find themselves top-of-the-table with results elsewhere going there way.

The side missed out on getting maximum points against Luton Town at Elland Road on Tuesday night and will be frustrated starting the restart to the season with a defeat against Cardiff City that a win will be the absolute minimum when they travel to Lancashire.

Rovers, meanwhile, are on the back of successive defeats which has set them five points adrift of the playoffs.

Tony Mowbray's side will know this match is more or less a make or break situation for their playoff hopes this season but they will face a Leeds United squad hungry to make sure there are no repeats from previous seasons.

Recommended bets:

  • Pablo Hernandez to score first - 11/2
  • Correct score at 1-1 - 6/1

Win, lose or draw?

Tough, tough game this one. Tony Mowbray is a shrewd operator and Leeds could be missing key me in Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper, who are both big injury doubts. I'll opt for a 1-1 draw.

Who are you backing for first goalscorer?

Pablo Hernandez has been restricted to the role of supersub these last two games, but it's surely the time to start him. If he does, he will be heavily involved and lead by example, so is a decent shout to score first.

Who is on penalty duties?

Plenty of Leeds players have missed spot-kicks this season, so no clearcut option here. Patrick Bamford will be the leading candidate thought.

Will they keep a clean sheet?

Cooper and Dallas will be big misses in the back-four if they both fail in their fitness battles, so Blackburn will fancy their chances to breach a patched-up backline.

Will the lack of fans help or hinder the side?

Not having fans at Elland Road during such a tense time may not be the worst thing as this anxiety can often seep onto the pitch, but this is usually a fixture where Leeds will bring a hoard of supporters and create an entirely different atmosphere. These fans will perhaps be missed here more than in any of Leeds' away games.
