Blackburn Rovers sweating on fitness of winger who impressed against Ashley Cole ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Blackburn Rovers are sweating on the fitness of winger Craig Conway ahead of their trip to face Nottingham Forest.

And boss Tony Mowbray is hoping the Scot gets the green light after impressing when up against former Chelsea star Ashley Cole in midweek.

Conway made his ninth Championship start of the season for Rovers in their 2-0 victory over the Reds’ arch-rivals Derby County on Tuesday night, and held his own against defender Cole.

Sam Byram determined to enjoy life at Nottingham Forest with injury woe already forgotten

But the 33-year-old is a doubt to take on Martin O’Neill’s side at the City Ground this weekend.

“He has a slight thigh strain, which is a real shame as he was so positive the other night against Ashley Cole,” Mowbray told the official website.

“He was directly against him, even though I was tempted to play (Adam) Armstrong against Cole, with him being 38.

“Craig, as I have said many times, is such a fantastic trainer and such a fantastic personality.

“He asked questions of Derby and was mature in his play both in and out of possession, helping out Elliott (Bennett) down that right side.

“He’s the only one who’s a doubt.”

Rovers captain Charlie Mulgrew will also be assessed ahead of the Forest clash, having missed the win over the Rams.

If Conway is fit, Mowbray has hinted he may name an unchanged team on the banks of the Trent.

“I think that team deserves to have another shot and let’s see if we can keep some consistency,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“We’ll be going to Forest to give a really good account of ourselves.”
