Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray makes Bolton Wanderers claim after pre-season friendly draw

Blackburn Rovers boss believes Bolton Wanderers are 'on their way' back after believing Ian Evatt's team gave his side a good test in their pre-season friendly.

The Trotters took the lead against the Ewood Park side through defender George Johnston before half-time.

They doubled their lead after the break when Oladapo Afolayan's good work on the left hand side and shot was put into his own net by Hayden Carter.

But Rovers rallied when Tony Mowbray made a quadruple change and Chile international Ben Brereton found the back of the net twice to ensure the friendly ended all square, as Wanderers fans returned to the University of Bolton Stadium for the first time in more than 500 days.

Wanderers are back in action next weekend at home for the League One curtain raiser against MK Dons, though a Bolton XI will play Chester in midweek.

But Rovers boss Mowbray paid tribute to Evatt's side after the 2-2 draw and believes the Trotters gave Rovers a test.

Mowbray said: “They gave us a really good test, as we expected, a team with a bit of momentum who have done exceptionally well.

“Bolton Wanderers is a big club, historically a big club and to coin a phrase, they’re on their way back.

“They’re a confident group of players and it was a test for us."
