A primary school held a week of celebrations for its 60th anniversary.
Blackburn Primary commemorated its 60th birthday with a week of events and parties and all of the pupils were asked to create their own projects to be presented at assembly.
Headteacher Janet Clarkson said: “It was a very busy week and we even had a drone that came up to take pictures.
“All the kids went into formation to create a giant number 60 as it flew overhead and took a picture.
“We then had the assembly with everyone in attendance and then the parents stayed behind for a tour of the classrooms and a buffet.
“The next day, when everyone was away, the children were given time to have their own party.”
Parents, teachers and children gathered for the assembly where the students sang and a photo gallery was presented to the audience before the cutting of a specially designed layered cake. The cake was designed by Max Paxton Horrocks of P7 and every layer had its own flavour.
The school had been preparing for the anniversary for months and pupils from all age groups were given their own projects. Primary1 had a photo booth to take their own pictures of the special occasion.
Primary 2- 3 had a silent disco where the pupils listened to music from the past 60 years. P4 created a project looking at all the world events in the past 60 years including the Berlin Wall falling and the Twin Towers being attacked on 9/11.
Primary 5-7 created a timeline of Blackburn from the slave owner George Moncrieff building Blackburn House to the town evolving from a small cotton-manufacturing town into a centre for coal mining.
