Black Widow trailer: Marvel fans conflicted over use of Avengers theme music

Marvel fans have been left feeling conflicted by the use of music in the new Black Widow trailer.

The studio released the first new look at the delayed film in months on Saturday (3 April) following the announcement that it will finally be released in July.

The new trailer shows Scarlett Johansson in action as Natasha Romanoff alongside her sister Yelena, who is played by Florence Pugh.

Fans were choked to see the inclusion of the character’s death scene in Avengers: Endgame, in which she sacrificed herself on Vormir to acquire the Soul Stone so the heroes could restore order following the blip.

If this didn’t already make fans emotional, the inclusion of the Avengers theme – with a choral twist – did the job. iy was played over the film’s title card.

Naturally, fans reacted to the moment on Twitter, with many praising the decision for the fact it highlights the character’s importance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“That Avengers theme in the new Black Widow trailer,” one fan wrote, adding: “Goosebumps man!!”

Another added: “I love that they played the Avengers theme during the trailer to signify Natasha’s importance as an Avenger. This entire film is going to be an emotional roller-coaster.”

One fan wrote: “I still get chills thinking about how the new #BlackWidow trailer blended the Avengers theme music with the score. Because if anyone deserves to have that theme woven into their movie, it’s the OG Avenger who selflessly gave the world everything she had.”

However, some were left underwhelmed and argued that the character deserved her own theme.

“It’s very silly that they’re just using the Avengers theme in the trailer,” a fan argued, writing: “Sorry Natasha, you can’t have your own theme music.”

Someone else described the decision as “cheating”.

Upon its debut on 9 July, Black Widow will be available to watch in cinemas as well as at home on Disney Plus for an additional fee on top of the streaming service’s subscription rate.
