“I’m done running from my past.”
Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff may have met a tragic end during the epic Avengers Endgame but now Scarlett Johansson reprises her role for the heroine’s first solo adventure.
Set following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Natasha can be seen on the run from Secretary Ross ( William Hurt ), until she is faced with a blast from her past: “sis” Yelena Belova ( Florence Pugh ).
The “sisters” seem to have a complicated relationship to say the least as they violently grapple with each other as it becomes clear that Belova was raised in the same Black Widow programme as Romanoff.
But that’s not all, as it seems the Black Widow programme is back with a vengeance, prompting them both to reunite with two other old faces, one of which is Red Guardian/Alexei Shostakov played by Stranger Things star David Harbour.
Meanwhile, Oscar winner Rachel Weisz plays another figure of the Black Widow programme, Melina, who comments on Harbour’s character getting “fat”.
As Natasha takes on what seems to be an army of new Widows and a mysterious masked villain - who comic fans will know is the infamous Taskmaster - the odds look stacked against her.
It looks set to be an emotional swan song for Johansson’s heroine regardless, as the story of Natasha Romanoff comes full circle.
But could in her place?
