Black Widow solo movie may be set after Captain America: Civil War

Black Widow is finally going to get to spin her own web.

The much-anticipated solo spin-off for Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) is coming to cinema screens as the Marvel Cinematic Universe enters Phase Four.

Little is known about the film beyond Johansson's involvement, that it will be directed by Cate Shorthand, and that the likes of Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz have joined the cast.

Now a new rumour is suggesting we know when the new film is set, which had previously been touted as a prequel to her MCU appearances so far, but now may be set in the more recent past.

A Twitter user shared a social media claim that Bucky Barnes actor Sebastian Stan commented that the film will take place after the events of the film Captain America: Civil War.

Until confirmed by Stan or footage suggests he actually said this, we will take this with a pinch of salt.

However, it would make sense logistically as it wouldn't require any de-ageing effects to be applied to Scarlett Johansson, whilst also filling in the time when she was on the run after switching sides to Captain America from Iron Man in Civil War.

The character later appeared at the side of Steve Rogers in Avengers: Infinity War with a new hairdo and little explanation of what she's been up to.

It would be interesting to see this time filled in - and there may be time for a quick Chris Evans cameo.

In the meantime, we are still reeling from Widow's story arc in Avengers: Endgame, which the film's directors explained in Avengers: Endgame directors explain controversial Black Widow scene.

Avengers: Endgame is currently in cinemas.
