Black Widow: David Harbour urges Marvel to stream film online after release date delayed

New Marvel film Black Widow may have been delayed indefinitely due to coronavirus, but one of its stars thinks it would be “fun” if it was released digitally instead.

Like most other films set to be released in the coming months, the Scarlett Johansson film was scheduled to be unveiled on 1 May before Disney announced it would be held off until an unspecified date.

Now, though, David Harbour has called for the film to be released at home while speaking on a live Instagram Q&A.

“My publisher also sent me an email saying Black Widow had been postponed and I think I replied ‘shocker’,” the actor, 44, said, adding: “Wouldn’t it be fun if we all could just stream it? But that’s above my pay grade.”

Harbour also suggested that coronavirus has delayed the release of Stranger Things season four.

The actor, who was recently confirmed to return as Jim Hopper in new episodes, made the revelation on Instagram.

He claimed to know when Netflix was planning on releasing the new season, telling his followers:  ”[It was] supposed to come out early next year, I think, although I don’t have authority on this.”

Harbour admitted that the release will “probably be pushed back” by delays caused by the deadly virus.

Upon learning the the show’s Atlanta production had shut down, Harbour rushed to the UK to be with his girlfriend Lily Allen.

“My hope is we get it up and running as soon as possible but I also suggested to Lily that season four should be animated,” he said.

As the coronavirus death toll rises and cities around the world go into lockdown, film studios are rethinking strategies for their forthcoming releases.

Universal made new releases The Invisible Man, The Hunt and Emma available to watch at home weeks after their cinema releases.
