Black Swan: BTS fan edits video side-by-side with Natalie Portman film

BTS fans are being creeped out by one moment in the new video for “Black Swan“ that references the film.

The song doesn’t just share a name with the 2010 film, which stars Natalie Portman as a ballet dancer who finds herself slipping into madness.

One fan has pointed out that there is a spooky moment in the clip that shows BTS member Jin noticing his reflection isn’t moving – just like Portman’s character in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological horror.

The K-pop boy band released the clip on Wednesday (4 March) and the song’s title immediately began trending worldwide.

When the parallels to Black Swan were highlighted by one user, who stitched the two side-by-side, it turns out plenty of K-pop fans are yet to see the film – and seemed too scared to do so.

The video reportedly amassed one million views in less than 30 minutes.

BTS are keen film enthusiasts and regularly reference films in their videos.

Their recent video for Map of the Soul: 7 featured parallels to everything from Divergent and The Lion King to Pirates of the Caribbean to The Chronicles of Narnia.

It was the Maze Runner reference that seemed to excite fans most, though, considering lead star Dylan O’Brien is a self-proclaimed member of the BTS fandom.

James Dasher, author of the novels, even chimed in, saying that he’d cast Jungkook in the lead role of Thomas if the films were remade.

BTS have cancelled a run of South Korean dates on their forthcoming world tour following the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
