Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is developing a TV series set in the kingdom of Wakanda.
The filmmaker, who also co-wrote Marvel’s 2018 superhero adventure, has signed a five-year exclusive television deal with Disney for his production company Proximity Media, Deadline reports.
Coogler is also working on a sequel to the first Black Panther film.
Speaking about the TV deal, Coogler said that it had been “an honour” to work with Disney on Black Panther and now branch out into a new Marvel series.
“As avid consumers of television, we couldn’t be happier to be launching our television business with Bob Iger, Dana Walden and all the amazing studios under the Disney umbrella,” he said.
“We look forward to learning, growing, and building a relationship with audiences all over the world through the Disney platforms… We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share.”
Not much is known about the movie sequel to Black Panther, which is scheduled for release in July 2022.

It has been revealed, however, that the film won’t recast or digitally recreate the character of Wakanda leader T’Challa, following the death of actor Chadwick Boseman to colon cancer last year aged 43.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige said in January that Coogler was “hard at work, and continuing that legacy is job number one for us”.
“It’s extremely challenging, but it’s the job ahead. And it’s what Ryan is thinking about,” he said. “The world of Wakanda is now revered around the world, thanks in large part to [Boseman], [and] deserves to live on, and that’s what Coogler is focused on.”
