The hit 2018 Marvel film Black Panther has been updated to include a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman on Disney+.

Boseman, who played the lead character of King T’Challa, aka Black Panther, in the Oscar-winning superhero movie, died in August after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

Films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) typically begin with an elaborate logo sequence, which displays images of some of the franchise’s biggest characters, such as Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America.

For the streaming version of Black Panther, Disney have replaced the traditional animated Marvel logo with a compilation of clips and stills of Boseman, which were spliced into the logo.

The update, which was shared by fans on social media, arrived on what would have been Boseman’s 44th birthday.

In the wake of Boseman’s death, there has been uncertainty among fans over the future of the Black Panther series.

A planned sequel, Black Panther 2, is reportedly still going ahead, with T’Challa’s sister Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, rumoured to have an expanded role.

A Marvel executive recently confirmed that there are no plans to recreate Boseman’s character using CGI effects, saying: “There's only one Chadwick and he's not with us.”

Boseman’s final film role comes in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom on Netflix, for which the actor is tipped to be awarded a posthumous Academy Award.
