‘Black Panther’ sequel, coming in July 2022, is called ‘Wakanda Forever’

Winston Duke (as M’Baku) and Danai Gurira (Okoye), pictured in “Avengers: Infinity War,” are expected to return in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” | Marvel Studios

The highly anticipated sequel to “Black Panther” is set to be released July 8, 2022, and is titled “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Marvel announced Monday.

The news was revealed in a megatrailer celebrating Marvel movies:

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced in December that the film would not recast the late Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa character in its next installment.

“Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives,” Feige said at the time. “His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past. It’s for that reason we will not recast the character.”

Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi) are expected to return.

The three-minute long trailer also gave a first look at “Nomadland” director Chloé Zhao’s ”Eternals,” arriving Nov. 5, and revealed the title of the “Captain Marvel” sequel, “The Marvels,” arriving Nov. 11, 2022.

The end of the trailer featured the official titles and release dates for other upcoming Marvel movies including “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (Sept. 3) and “Thor: Love and Thunder” (May 6, 2022).
