Black Mirror Bandersnatch endings: Netflix viewers 'shook' as they take control of Stefan's fate

A new Black Mirror has dropped on Netflix – and it’s up to you how it ends.

The dystopian drama landed on the streaming platform on Friday morning after weeks of teasing and a first look trailer on Thursday.

Viewers are in control of lead character Stefan’s fate with five possible endings available and more than one trillion unique story permutations.

The average viewing time is 90 minutes but depending on the choices fans make, the standalone film can be finished in 40 minutes.

Taking control: Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter and Asim Chaudry in Bandersnatch (Netflix)

Choices range from the trivial – choosing between two types of cereal – to the potentially life-changing – whether or not Stefan, played by Fionn Whitehead, should attend therapy.

Fans were bowled over by the interactive option, with many hailing it “the best thing on TV this year”.

One Twitter user posted: “Black Mirror just raised the bar!!! Wow!!! #BANDERSNATCH #NowWatching.”

Another wrote: “Holy s***, #Bandersnatch was super-meta and SOOO twisted. It f***** me up and I absolutely loved it! Definitely gonna try to get some other endings.”

The film follows teenager Stefan, played by Fionn Whitehead, who lands a job adapting multiple-choice sci-fi book Bandersnatch into a computer game that presents the player with a series of choices.

It is a standalone film and not part of the upcoming fifth series of the dystopian hit.

It marks the first time Netflix has offered multiple narratives for adults having previously experimented with children’s shows Muddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile and Puss in Books.

Bandersnatch is available to watch on Netflix
