Black Medicine filming begins in Northern Ireland

23Ten Productions and Northern Ireland Screen have today announced that principal photography has begun in Northern Ireland on new film Black Medicine.

Black Medicine follows Jo, a black-market medic who carries out illegal operations for the criminal underworld.

When she gives refuge to a young girl, Jo must choose between breaking her medical oath or crossing her ruthless employers.

Black Medicine stars Derry-born actress Antonia Campbell-Hughes, who recently appeared in the 2016 blockbuster Split and the Irish box-office hit Black '47.

It also stars Orla Brady (American Horror Story, Collateral, The Foreigner), Amybeth McNulty (Anne with an E, Morgan) and John Connors (Cardboard Gangsters, Love/Hate).

The screenplay, which is written and directed by Lisburn filmmaker Colum Eastwood, is the eleventh film to come through Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus scheme.

Eastwood, who is a graduate of London Film School, was awarded runner up for Best Student Short at Palm Springs for his film, Here.

It will be filmed entirely on location in Northern Ireland for three weeks.

Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus scheme aims to deliver one debut feature by a Northern Ireland resident creative team (writer, director and producer) each year.

Previous films to come through the scheme include Shelly Love’s  A Bump Along the Way,  Ryan and Andrew Tohill’s  The Dig,  Chris Baugh and Brendan Mullin’s  Bad Day for the Cut,  Stephen Fingleton’s  The Survivalist  and Michael Lennox’s  A Patch of Fog .

Northern Ireland Screen has also backed TV series' including  The Fall  and  Death And Nightingales .
