Black Lives Matter graffiti removed from Ayr railway bridge

A Black Lives Matter graffiti tag has been washed away from a railway bridge.

Mystery surrounds who swooped on the spray-painted sign, which showed support for the BLM movement, on Ayr’s Tam’s Brig to wash it away.

The graffitied message- which joins the international human rights movement campaigning against violence and systemic racism towards black people- was up for four days before being removed.

The council confirmed none of their teams were involved in the removal.

Network Rail have also been contacted and the Post are awaiting a response.

The BLM movement has seen protests in major cities across the world including Glasgow and Edinburgh in response to the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, US on May 25.

The protest on Tam’s Brig divided opinion with hundreds taking to social media to air their views.

Lau Rarh Mac said: “This is just graffiti and vandalism.

“Surely they could have gotten permission from the council and organised a proper artist to create a mural somewhere?

“Nothing against the message but you cannot just go vandalising public property.”

Brian Jardine said: “I seem to remember lots of tags and graffiti with YES and Indy2 and no one battered an eye lid.

“Don’t hold a double standard now people”

Jordan Kerr commented: “Plain vandalism. No one can dress it up any other way.”

Ruaridh Eathain McGrath said: “It’s a wee scoosh of paint that can get power-washed off in minutes.”
