Black kimono affair

Geiko, also known as geisha, and maiko apprentice geiko don formal black kimono on Thursday as they stroll in Gionkobu, one of Kyoto's entertainment districts. Geiko and maiko traditionally pay calls on teahouses and their dance and music teachers on Aug. 1, known as "hassaku" on the lunar calendar. The temperature exceeded 30 C in Kyoto in the morning.
