Black Friday 2019 date and everything else you need to know

The dark nights are here and soon our attention turns to the next big spending event in our calendar... Christmas!

So if you're a savvy shopper and are alreading busy planning Christmas gifts for the whole family you'll want to make sure you take advantage of the biggest shopping day of the year...Black Friday.

The now annual fixture in the shopping calendar will see countless retailers opening early and slashing prices for one day in the ever-longer run-up to Christmas.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday was originally an American tradition, dropping on the day after Thanksgiving each year. Retailers offer massive discounts on a masses of products in an attempt to persuade you to spend your hard earned in the run-up to Christmas.

But UK retailers have jumped on the bandwagon in recent years so bargain hunters over here get the chance at some festive deals.

When is it this year?

This year Black Friday falls on Friday, November 29.

Why is it called Black Friday?

Nobody's entirely sure, but most suggestions surround how businesses and retailers detail their finances. Many shops see the biggest profits of the year on Black Friday. Many businesses will detail their gains in black ink (and losses in red ink), hence the name.
