Black coffee drinkers have better than average chance of being psychopaths

People who drink bitter black coffee are more likely to be psychopaths than those who don't, according to new research.

A study published in the journal Appetite claims people with a penchant for bitterness are more likely to be predisposed to dark behaviour.

More than 1000 adults took part in the survey.

They were asked to reveal their preference for food and drink flavours as well as take part in a series of personality tests, Coventry Live reports.

The study assessed a variety of traits - including, somewhat darkly, sadism, narcissism and psychopathy.

The University of Innsbruck researchers in charge of the study discovered a penchant for bitterness was linked to psychopathic behaviour.

Chicory, black coffee, and strong ales should all ring alarm bells, apparently.

And according to experts, there's three categories of "tasters" when it comes to bitterness.

These groups are supertasters, who taste all bitter foods very strongly, non-tasters, who often love these foods because they don’t taste them strongly, and tasters, whose likes and dislikes vary.

Instead they reckon if you like black coffee you're more likely to exhibit low-level psychopathy,  inflicting pain on others, everyday sadism.
