Black Cab Sessions: Songhoy Blues perform Sekou Oumarou

Songhoy Blues
Desert punk-bluesmakers … Songhoy Blues

From the town of Gao in north-eastern Mali, to the Royal Albert Hall; and now the back of a London cab, Songhoy Blues perform for the Black Cab Sessions – the gig-on-wheels which has previously played host to Brian Wilson, the National and Daniel Johnson.

Introducing 12 brand new video performances to the long-running series, the set-up of the sessions is simple: one song and one take in the back of a taxi cab. The most recent commission captures the rousing songcraft of Songhoy Blues, the Malian group with a burgeoning fanbase including Nick Zinner, Damon Albarn and Julian Casablancas.

Take a look at the video below, and tell us what you make of it.
