John Worboys latest: Black cab rapist will stay in prison after new Parole Board review

Black cab rapist John Worboys will stay in prison after a Parole Board panel concluded he is not suitable for release.

He will be in jail for at least another two years.

The former black cab driver, 61, was given an indeterminate prison sentence in 2009 after being convicted at Croydon crown court of 19 offences, including one rape and several other sex attacks, against 12 women.

In March, three High Court judges ruled that the Parole Board's January 4 decision to free the serial sex attacker had been taken improperly and that he must remain behind bars until his case was reviewed again.

After serving 10 years of his sentence, the Parole Board had in January announced that he could be freed. But the High Court overturned the decision following a successful legal challenge by two of his victims and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The ruling led to the resignation of the Parole Board's chairman Nick Hardwick after he was told by Justice Secretary David Gauke that his postilion was untenable.

The Parole Board's latest decision following a fresh review of Worboy's case was announced on Monday.

Revealing the outcome, a Parole Board spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a panel of the Parole Board gave a negative decision in the parole review of John Worboys following an paper hearing in October 2018.

"Under current legislation Mr Worboys will be eligible for a further review within two years.

"The date of the next review will be set by the Ministry of Justice."
