Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has been cast as Dr Fate in the forthcoming DC Comics adaptation Black Adam.

The casting represents Brosnan’s first foray into the world of big studio comic book franchises.

He joins a cast that already includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (playing the title role of Black Adam), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher) and Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone).

The film will be part of the DC Extended Universe, the franchise that includes films such as Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Justice League and Shazam!

Brosnan’s character is Kent Nelson (AKA Dr Fate), an archaeologist’s son who learns powerful sorcery skills and wears a magical helmet.

The character dates back to the 1940s, making Dr Fate one of the oldest characters to appear in the world of DC Comics.

Black Adam will feature the first cinematic incarnation of the Justice Society, a precursor to the Justice League that features an inter-generational team-up of superheroes.

Production is set to begin in April in Atlanta, Georgia.

Black Adam does not currently have a release date, with the film not expected to hit screens until next year at the earliest.
