BKFC says it’s starting a pension plan for its fighters’ retirements

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship on Thursday announced it is starting a pension plan for fighters who compete under its banner.

And while specifics of the plan were not announced by the promotion, if it’s up and running, it will be at the very least reasonably unique in the combat sports space.

“Our fighters are the most important asset of the company,” BKFC president Dave Feldman stated. “We want to ensure that they are compensated not only on the night of the fight, but also looked after in retirement. For each BKFC fight, money will be placed in a pension account for them to draw on upon retirement.

“BKFC is the hottest, fastest growing and most exciting sport in the world and we want to ensure that our fighters are taken care of in every possible way.”

A release from the promotion said the pension plan will start with BKFC 17, which takes place April 30 in Birmingham, Ala. Josh Burns takes on Dillon Cleckler in a heavyweight title eliminator in the main event.

The promotion got its start in mid-2018. Notable recent fighters include Paige VanZant, Dat Nguyen, Chris Leben, Leonard Garcia, David Rickels, Hector Lombard, Thiago Alves, Artem Lobov, Gabriel Gonzaga and Antonio Silva.
