PUNE: Union cabinet minister for women and child development and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Smriti Irani on Monday said that her party has reached its peak due to the dedication and sacrifices made by its workers.
She said that senior leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, had played a key role in ensuring the party’s presence in each district across the country.
“The proposal to establish a party office in each district was initiated under his leadership and was executed meticulously by him,” she said, while releasing the Marathi version of a book on Shah’s political journey in Pune on Monday.
The book Amit Shah Aani BJP Chi Vatchal is a translation of the English version, Amit Shah and the March of BJP. The book details Shah’s family members and how they shifted from Mumbai to Gujarat, his study of the Upanishads, his political moulding, travels and ideology. It also talks about his liking for chess and attempts to teach it in school.
She said that the book talks about Amit Shah as an individual and illustrates the party’s political journey. “Twenty years down the line, the world will want to know how the BJP has progressed step by step. It is our responsibility to preserve history,” she said.
NCP, Congress stage agitation over inflation
Congress and Nationalist Congress Party workers staged protests and shouted slogans against Irani over price rise at two different venues during her visit to Pune. Some workers attempted to throw eggs at her convoy.
There was a ruckus at Balgandharva Rangmandir when NCP workers tried to disrupt the book release programme. Deccan Gymkhana police late on Monday detained five women party workers of the NCP.
The NCP alleged that its workers were beaten up by BJP workers. Deputy chief minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar said that taking the law into one’s hands was wrong and everyone has a right to peaceful protests.
Irani said, “The real reason for this protest is different. For a long time, Amethi was considered a Congress bastion. In 2019, I defeated the sitting Congress president. Congress workers will forever feel sorry about that defeat and will agitate against me.”
