BJP trying to win Jobat bypoll with money & muscle, says Kamal Nath

INDORE: PCC chief Kamal Nath on Monday asked voters of poll-bound Jobat assembly constituency to “beware” of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, alleging that BJP will try to “buy their votes”.

“Every election has its importance. This byelection will not help make or topple a government, but using this opportunity, voters can give a message that people of Jobat can’t be fooled,” Nath said on Monday at two public gatherings in Bhabhra and Udaigarh.

Alleging that BJP wants to win the election by “misusing state machinery and money and muscle power”, he said: “Shivraj Singhji is arriving today, but not to talk to voters about electricity or unemployment. BJP is left only with money. They will distribute money as they think they can buy your votes.”

Nath’s statement came a day after Congress MLA from Barwaha Sachin Birla switched to BJP. The PCC chief had alleged that BJP is back to its “deals and auctions” as it senses defeat in the coming bypolls.

“Every day, I am giving an account of my 15 months in power, but Shivraj ji doesn’t want to talk about his 17 years in power,” Nath said. He offered tribute on the birth anniversary of Kalawati Bhuriya, whose death due to Covid-19 necessitated the bypoll.

“I urge the tribal people of this constituency to support truth and I promise you that I will fulfil the dream of Kalawati to develop Jobat,” Nath said, reiterating that his government had waived agriculture loans of 31,000 farmers of Alirajpur district.

BJP state secretary Rajnish Agrawal said, “Nath made similar allegations during byelections to 28 seats last year and people replied by helping BJP candidates win. If Congress has any proof of its allegations, it should approach EC or the Governor.”
