BJP stages sit-in inside GHMC mayor's office

HYDERABAD: Demanding release of funds by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to the corporators, a group of BJP activists staged a sit-in inside the civic body's head office on Tuesday.

The protest led to tense situation in the area as both GHMC and locals police were taken aback.

The activists resorted to vandalism and staged a protest inside the GHMC mayor Vijaya Lakshmi Gadwal's office, in her absence.

The city police had a tough time controlling the agitators.

The protesters used black spray against GHMC title, which was displayed at the head office.

Later, they raised loud slogans against chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and at the same time raised slogans in support of BJP.

"Besides the issue of funds, the protest is about not holding the council meeting for a long time," one of the protesters said.

On hearing about the flash protest, a large number of policemen were sent to control the situation.

By this time, flower pots arranged at the mayor office were banged against the floor. The police finally had to lift a large number of protesters out of the mayor's chamber.

The agitators tied BJP's kanduva (shawl) to the mayor's chair.
