NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Friday alleged that development charges for water and sewer connections too have gone up in the national capital.
He said Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has increased the development fee for domestic water connection from Rs 100 per square metre (sqm) to Rs 220.50 per square foot. He claimed that the development fee for a water connection for a 200 sqm plot, would now cost Rs 3.8 lakh instead of Rs 20,000. He also claimed that the development fee for a domestic sewer connection on a 200 sqm plot would cost Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 4.2 lakh for a commercial connection.
A DJB spokesperson said the levy of water and sewer development charges has already been abolished by DJB. “The levying of Infrastructure charges has been restarted in October 2020 and it is applicable only for those properties which have an area more than 200 sqm. Properties which are less than 200 sqm are still exempted. The rate of this IFC is according to the category of colonies with less impact on the middle and low end. Rates vary as per the property tax classification of the colonies.”
