BJP, RSS trying to end reservation: RJD chief Lalu Prasad

PATNA: Launching a frontal attack on the BJP-led government at the Centre, RJD president Lalu Prasad on Saturday said the saffron party and its parent organisation RSS were making attempts to end the provision of reservation for Dalits and backwards.

Addressing a rally of the seven-party Mahagathbandhan at Purnia through virtual mode from New Delhi, the former Union railway minister said, "The BJP and RSS are extreme opponents to the provisions of reservation, and the PM Narendra Modi is executing what the RSS is liking."

Referring to a book written by the RSS second Sarsanghchalak MS Golwalkar, Lalu said, "Guru Golwalkar has written two dangerous things in his book 'Bunch of Thoughts'. First, if a Dalit enters the Kashi-Viswanath temple (at Varanasi), drive him out by beating with shoes. Second, the provision of reservation is a dangerous thing and it must be abolished. These two thoughts are deep-rooted in the mind and blood of the RSS people."

The RJD boss further mocked the Narendra Modi government for making a false claim about distributing free ration (food-grains) among poor families though it was being done based on a Supreme Court order in 2010.

"The Supreme court had given a strong order in 2010 asking the Union government to distribute food-grains among the poor families, if they were getting rotten/ destroyed in the government-owned godowns. But the BJP-led government at the Centre is making a false claim about free distribution of the ration (food-grains) among the poor families," he said, adding the BJP leaders were also seeking votes from poor families by making false claims about the free ration distribution.

"They claim they are providing free ration among poor families. Are you producing these food-grains by ploughing in farmlands? Are you buying all these food-grains from your own pocket money?", Lalu asked the BJP leaders in his own rustic style.

Making a clarion call for ground-level unity among the supporters of all parties of the Mahagathbandhan, Lalu said, "Now, Nitish and I have become united. There should be no confusion on the question of unity among any ally of the Mahagathbandhan."

He further called upon the supporters of all the seven parties to ensure victory of Mahagathbandhan on record number of seats in both the 2024 Lok Sabha and the 2015 Vidhan Sabha elections in the state. "Now, the time has come for ‘Vidai’ (sending-off) of the Narendra Modi government," he said.

Lalu further asked the supporters to break the record of the 2015 Bihar assembly polls when the Mahagathbandhan registered a resounding majority over the BJP and its allies by winning 178 seats in the 243-member assembly.

The RJD boss, who is recovering in Delhi after a recent kidney transplant in Singapore, further thanked her second daughter Rohini Acharya for saving his life by donating her one of the kidneys. "She donated 'life' to me, I cannot return her 'karza' (debt)," Lalu said.
