Three days from now, Droupadi Murmu will land in Hyderabad as part of her campaign to enlist support for her presidential election bid. Telangana BJP is planning a grand welcome to the NDA presidential candidate. She will interact with BJP elected representatives at a stat hotel on Raj Bhavan road on July 12.
According to BJP leaders, Murmu will arrive at Begumpet airport at 3 pm in a special flight. The BJP has three MLAs, four Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP from Telangana. Senior BJP leaders will also be part of the event. The saffron party is also inviting intellectuals, retired IAS, IPS officers, professors, doctors and professional to the meeting.
“The party is also planning to take out a car rally for Murmu from the airport to the meeting venue,” a senior BJP leader said. Initially, Murmu did not have any plans to make the touchdown in Telangana but has decided to come down after Telangana BJP leaders insisted that she visit Hyderabad since opposition parties’ candidate Yashwant Sinha had already paid a visit here to seek the support of elected representatives here.
Sources said the saffron party also wanted to send a message to the people that the party leadership is all for upliftment of SCs and STs by inviting Murmu to Telangana where it wants to extend its footprint in 2023 assembly elections. “Murmu’s visit is part of the central leadership’s plan to send a clear message to the people that it is giving a chance to an Adivasi to head the country’s top post,” a party leader said. Sinha came to Hyderabad on July 2 to meet TRS leaders on the invitation of CM KCR. The TRS gave a rousing reception to Sinha.
