Icelandic artist Björk has said her upcoming performance at Coachella 2023 will be an ‘orkestral’ set.

This means it will feature a local orchestra and include the eccentric singer’s three-decade discography.

This will be Björk’s first appearance at Coachella, the annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, since 2007.

When will Björk be performing at Coachella 2023?

Björk announced her Coachella set on Twitter.

“We are so excited to bring björk orkestral to [Coachella],” she said on Wednesday. “We will bring on the stage a local orkestra and play arrangements from 30 years.”

The announcement was accompanied by the dates Björk is due to perform at Coachella, which are slated across the festival’s two weekends on April 16 and April 23.

Björk first announced her intention to use orchestras for her performances in 2020. These were planned for shows in her native Iceland.

However, the performances were postponed until 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. The sets were eventually live-streamed and included her multimedia ‘Cornucopia’ concerts.

Since then, the singer has brought her Orkestra series to venues in Miami.

NME reported that Björk’s Coachella set will be one of many performances live-streamed on YouTube. This followed news that the festival had renewed its contract with the platform through to 2026.

Spanning the singer’s 10-album catalogue, it will include songs from latest album Forrossa.

“There’s a lot of pleasure in the album,” Björk told NME last year. She said that it was “about enjoying that space”.

Who else will be performing at Coachella 2023?

Frank Ocean will headline the festival with Bad Bunny and Blackpink.

Other acts set to perform include Burna Boy, Gorrillaz, Lucy Dacus, boygenius, Julien Baker, The Chemical Brothers, Rosalía, Kali Uchis, Charli SCS and many others.

They will be rocking the crowds between April 14-16 and April 21-23.
