Bizarre moment man calls 999 to report that his cat has fallen down the stairs

This is the bizarre moment a panicked man calls 999 to report that his cat has fallen down the stairs.

South West Ambulance Service have released the ridiculous audio in a bid to prevent time-wasters from phoning the emergency service.

In a tweet, the ambulance service said: "We took a call earlier because someone’s cat had fallen down stairs. Unfortunately, we cannot deal with animals incidents. Please remember to call 999 only if someone is seriously injured or ill, or their life may be at risk #Inside999."

The caller reveals to the operator that the cat in crisis is actually his girlfriends cat, after the call handler advises him to phone the vets.

The call went as follows:

Operator: "Ambulance, is the patient breathing?"

Caller: "I'm not sure if you can help, but erm, my cat's just fell down two flights of stairs and I need to get it some medical."

Operator: "Okay, sorry did you say your cat?"

Caller: "Yeah."

Operator: "Okay, erm, you'd need to phone your vet."

Caller: "I don't know who the vet is, it's my girlfriend's cat."

Operator: "Bear with me a moment, what area are you in?"

Caller: "Erm, *inaudible*"

Operator: "Okay, just bear with me I'll see if I can find an emergency vet for you."

Caller: "Okay."

Operator: "I've got a number for [redacted]."

Caller: "Will they be able to get out an emergency vet?"

Operator: "Erm, I, I'm not sure. I'm really not sure. We don't deal with pets at all I'm afraid."
