Bizarre footage shows occupants of van flee scene before it goes up in flames following Ballymun crash

A van went up in flames after it crashed into a car in a terrifying collision in Ballymun yesterday evening.

The horror smash took place on the Ballymun Road at around 6pm.

Footage taken before the crash shows the van driving erratically, with its bumper falling off after it mounts a pavement.

The van then collided with another car and later went up in flames.

The occupants of the van fled the scene before emergency services arrived.

Dublin Fire Brigade shared pictures of the aftermath of the crash on social media.

They said: "Finglas firefighters were called to a 2 car RTC today in Ballymun. The van was alight on our arrival with no occupants."

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live investigations into the incident are ongoing.

He said: "Gardai attended a Road Traffic Collision between two vehicles on the Ballymun Road, Ballymun, yesterday 21 August at approximately 6:00pm."

In a separate incident later that evening, firefighters from Finglas were called after three cars went up in flames in Ballymun.

Dublin Fire Brigade shared a video this morning of the brave heroes battling the blaze.

They said: Overnight firefighters from Finglas station dealt with 3 cars on fire in Ballymun.

"Because of the heat energy generated by a car fire (2 mw+) they can spread to other vehicles or property nearby."
