Bizarre fish finger lasagne recipe sparks big online debate

When it comes to British comfort food, lasagne and fish fingers are both solid options. Always reliable and hard to get wrong... or so we thought.

As famous frozen food brand Birds Eye appears to have divided the nation with its latest Facebook post: a fish finger lasagne.

The household brand has posted a recipe and accompanying photos of its very own unorthodox ocean-themed version of the classic Italian dish, that contains a whopping 30 fish fingers.

And it has been met with a lot of controversy, with loyal lasagne fans are rightly outraged with the concoction, commenting “omg no. I love lasagne and love fish fingers but some things are not meant for each other”, with another saying  “I love fish fingers but would give this a miss”.

But others are a lot more open to the idea, declaring that “this could be the BEST fish finger meal ever?”, whilst another Facebook user agreed, proclaiming “omg that would be my food heaven!”.

Despite the off-putting pictures, the actual recipe does admittedly sound pretty tasty, as rather than a Rachel Green hybrid there's crispy baked fish fingers, plus peas and spinach, that have then been smothered in a fish pie style béchamel sauce, layered between fresh lasagne sheets and topped with sprinkling of parmesan before being baked in the oven.

But it seems we're in good company, with 2015 Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain having previously posted a very similar creative twist on the traditional lasagne that features fish fingers as the hero ingredient.

Appearing in her cookbook 'Nadiya’s Family Favourites', the gastronomic spectacle is also accompanied by a few other unique fusion food recipes, such as a comforting samosa pie and a saffron biryani.

Well if Nadiya approves of it...
