Bizarre Donald Trump banner flown over Goodison Park ahead of Everton v Manchester United

A bizarre banner relating to the US presidential election was flown over Goodison Park ahead of Everton's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Joe Biden is on the verge of beating Donald Trump in the fiercely-contested race on the other side of the Atlantic.

But the current president and many of his supporters are not ready to accept defeat, it would seem.

While the votes are still being counted in key battleground states, Trump has called foul play, but without presenting any evidence to back up his claims.

And in the Liverpool sky over Everton 's ground on Saturday morning, an aeroplane was spotted carrying a banner which read: "World knows Trump won", followed by the hashtag #maga (Make America Great Again).

At the time of writing, it was not yet known who was behind the stunt.

The US election has certainly been keeping people interested on this side of the pond.

Southampton's official Twitter account echoed Trump's call to "stop the count" after the Saints went top of the Premier League table on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

Speaking in Delaware on Friday night, Democratic candidate Biden said: "We're going to win this race."

He also called for unity in what has become an increasingly divided nation, saying it was time to "get the vitriol out of our politics" and "be civil to one another".

"We may be opponents but we're not enemies, we're Americans," added Biden.
