Bitter ex set up x-rated Instagram account of girlfriend after she left him

A bitter ex-boyfriend set up an x-rated Instagram account with semi-naked photos of his former girlfriend after she left him.

Benjamin Simcock shared 16 photos of his former partner on the account, before sharing it with her friend.

The woman, who the ECHO has chosen not to name, found out after Simcock sent her a friend request from the lewd page, which included pictures of her in her underwear.

Simcock, who was 17 when he created the account, appeared in Liverpool Magistrates' Court today (July 24) after admitting disclosing private sexual photographs with intent to cause distress.

The court heard Simcock, now 18 and of Smithdown Road, Wavertree, was in an "on and off" relationship with the woman for two years.

However, after the relationship deteriorated she moved out and went to live with her parents.

Mark Teare, prosecuting, said: "They remained in contact and Mr Simcock attempted to rekindle the relationship.

"She declined and received numerous texts from him."

On February 23 this year she received a friend request from the x-rated account.

The bio of the Instagram account called her a "slag" and made a number of claims about the woman's family and how they are "all on benefits".

Her mum reported the matter to police, but even as she did so Simcock was messaging his ex asking "Thoughts?", "Do you like it? I hope you're happy" and "Who else do you think should see?".

One witness statement from the woman's friend was given to the court but it was not clear how many people had actually seen the account.

Simcock had no previous convictions, the court heard.

Chris Murphy, defending, explained his client accepted setting up the account but at a time when he was suffering from health problems.

Mr Murphy explained that Simcock was "very upset" and "distressed by it all" and that he also acknowledged the distress he had caused his ex by sharing the account.

He told Deputy District Judge Rhys Williams that Simcock has fully cooperated with the probation service.

Sentencing, Judge Williams described his actions as "appalling behaviour on your behalf" which would have caused "untold distress".

Judge Williams ordered Simcock to complete a 12 month community order with 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirements.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £90 and a restraining order preventing him from contacting his ex was also put in place.
