Bishop Auckland MP gives unwanted stock from pubs and restaurants to vulnerable people

A County Durham MP has collected unwanted stock from pubs and restaurants to help vulnerable people.

Dehenna Davison, who represents Bishop Auckland, was out collecting essential items such as milk and bread for food banks and good causes.

It came after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced all bars and restaurants would be forced to close their doors on Friday night to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Speaking on Facebook, Miss Davison said: "I know I said keep out of the pub and I am already not following my own advice because already I have had a few pubs get in touch and say they got excess stock.

"They have got milk, they have got bread, and other bits that were going to go off and they wanted to donated to local good causes and food banks, which is amazing.

"I'm doing a run around tonight with my two buddies behind me to go and pick up whatever people can spare.

"If you are a pub out there and have anything you could spare that would go to waste, please get in touch with me, there are people out there in these current times who really need it. Thank you so much."

At his daily Downing Street press conference, the Prime Minister said the closure of businesses in the hospitality industry were needed to reduce "unnecessary" social gatherings by 75% in order to have an impact on the infection rate.
