Bisexual couple sent on holiday to island where gay sex is illegal

Producers behind dating show Blind Date sent a bisexual couple off on holiday to a Caribbean island where gay sex is illegal.

On the Channel 5 show, presented by Birkenhead's Paul O'Grady , Jordan Shannon and Jesse Drew matched and were told they would be packed off for an all expenses paid romantic trip to Saint Lucia.

But the West Indies paradise is one of the countries that still persecutes men for being gay with punishment from fines to up to 10 years in prison.

Jordon told the Daily Star : “I didn’t know this until I was told on the way to the hotel. I thought: ‘What the f**k?’”

While viewers were happy to see diversity represented on Sunday night's episode, many were disappointed by the lack of research which appeared to have taken place.

One, @Susan_Larson_TN, said: "#BlindDate sent two men on holiday to country where gay sex is illegal. The producers of the show have yet to apologise."

Another, @RefugeeNik, said: "Last night Jordan Shannon picked Jesse Drew on #BlindDate, the reward? Holiday to Saint Lucia in the West Indies where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by 10 years in Prison. I think you would call this a massive fail by @Channel5_TV."

Channel 5 confirmed to the ECHO that they are looking into the matter and stressed the contestants were back from holiday and completely fine after facing no difficulties out on the trip.
