Birthday party roadmap - Monthly breakdown of how many guests you can invite

The coronavirus pandemic has changed youngsters' lives in many ways over the past year.

Our little ones have had to endure months without school, a long period when play parks were off-limits and a serious lack of birthday parties.

But last week, Boris Johnson revealed his provisional roadmap out of lockdown, which included a number of details about when family life will start to resemble something close to 'normal'.

The biggest change is kids will be able to return to classrooms from March 8, when routine testing will be rolled out to clampdown on the virus spreading.

However, it was also revealed when - and how many guests - can start to attend birthday parties, both inside and outside.

Here's a breakdown:

  • 28th March - Garden parties of rule of six, and doorstep visits.
  • 17th May - Garden parties of up to 30 adults outside, and indoor parties of up to six adults.
  • 21st June - All parties allowed.

By June 21, the Government hopes everything will be re-opened including night clubs.

Ministers are also expected to end restrictions on live events and performances, and possibly to on weddings too.

A previous version of this story stated that garden parties of up to 15 adults would be allowed from April 12. This was incorrect and we are happy to clarify.
