Tributes have been paid to a young man who was killed in a drive-by shooting near a primary school in Birmingham.

Dante Mullings, 23, was found with fatal injuries in the Ladywood area of the city on Tuesday.

Shots were fired within yards of a primary school at about 5pm.

Police believe Mr Mullings, who lived locally, was one of three men in a Vauxhall Corsa when a weapon was fired from an oncoming car.

The men managed to exit the silver car and attempted to flee a short distance down the road but Mr Mullings collapsed.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died of a gunshot wound.

In a tribute Mr Mullings' relatives said: "Our family, friends and all who knew Dante are absolutely broken beyond belief.

"Dante was the epitome of kind, caring and thoughtful. The tributes that we have heard are testament of this. Dante will be terribly missed.

"Not only is his murder a huge loss to our family but also a considerable loss to the community."

A blue tent covering the car where the victim is said to have been shot remained at the scene on Wednesday (PA)

A 19-year-old man remains in hospital being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-changing. A 20-year-old man has been discharged from hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett, from force CID, said: "We are directly appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward, even if it was not directly of the incident, this could help us piece together the circumstances leading to this tragic death.

"We want to know what happened and why, and anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant you believe this to be, should come forward."

Anyone can submit information via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
