Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama, unanimously passed a shelter-in-place order at Tuesday’s city council meeting, which was the responsible move to make amid the coronavirus pandemic.
And while Birmingham mayor Randall Woodfin actually recommended the ordinance earlier in the day, it probably couldn’t hurt to have some support on the subject from, oh, just Alabama football head coach Nick Saban.
On Tuesday afternoon, Alabama football posted a PSA video to Twitter from Saban, urging Alabamans to take the proper precautions — like social distancing and hand washing — in an effort to flatten the curve and limit the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
One hour later, this happened.
The order calls for a 24-hour curfew until April 3 but allows people to leave their homes for essential work and activities.
We’re not definitively saying that Saban’s PSA had anything to do with the ordinance passing unanimously. But we’re not not saying it either.
Saban gets things done.
