A campaign by the Birmingham Mail aimed at securing the refurbishment of New Street station has received a boost with the announcement of a Birmingham city council "masterplan" to transform the city, which includes work on the station which the paper describes as "dingy, dark and dungeon-like". The blueprint was revealed days after the paper's editor, Steve Dyson, delivered a petition to the House of Commons calling for official action to. In three weeks the Mail gathered 7,000 signatures.
