A man has been charged with attempted murder after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed near a mosque in Birmingham.
Dominic Palmer from the Small Heath area of the city appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday after being arrested around 10 hours after the attack.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered life threatening injuries in the attack around the corner from the Idara Maarif-e-Islam Hussainia Mosque – where he was a member of the congregation – at around 1am on Saturday.
The 29-year-old, who is unemployed, has been remanded in custody ahead of his first appearance at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday.
Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, of West Midlands Police, said: "This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
"We've since learnt that the boy only celebrated his 15th birthday two days before the attack.
"Our investigation is continuing as we work to establish the circumstances of what happened so that we can provide his family with the answers they need.
"I would ask anyone with information to come forward."
