Tahith Chong made quite the impression on his Birmingham City debut as they started their season with a 1-0 win over recently relegated Sheffield United in the Championship.
The young winger is currently on loan at the Midlands side from Manchester United for the season, after impressing in pre-season with the Reds and scoring against Derby County earlier this summer.
He made his first competitive start in the game at Bramall Lane under Lee Bowyer's management, but the Dutchman lined up in a new position.
Rather than his standard wide position, the 21-year-old started on the left-hand side of a midfield three and used his energy and tenacity to get around the pitch without the ball.
Chong was still able to provide a threat going forward, but it was his defensive work that caught the eye of his new fans as they praised him throughout the game.
Chong made seven tackles and five ball recoveries during his time on the pitch, meaning he made more tackles than anyone else during the game.
The youngster went down with cramp after 73 minutes and was replaced to a raucous applause from the away fans in the stadium, and they will be hopeful that he is fit for their next game after a performance like that.
