Birmingham Commonwealth Games boosts marketing programme

Ten creative and marketing companies have been added to a growing roster of names aiming to make the 2022 Commonwealth Games a success.

Organiser Birmingham 2022 has appointed the firms to its marketing and creative services framework and they will now work with organisers in the build up to the sporting festival over the next two years.

Eight of these are either based in Birmingham or have offices in the West Midlands.

They newly appointed agencies are:

- Gung Ho, Grayling and Pitch Marketing Group - Public relations

- Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces, TBA Group and DRPG - Events

- McCann Central - Design and creative services

- Rainbow Productions - Mascot design and production

- BMG Research - Consumer insights and polling

- Goodform - Customer relationship management

The companies have committed to creating apprenticeship roles, upskilling local people, engaging in school outreach programmes and collaborating with local universities.

They will work on a large variety of projects including the Queen's Baton Relay, the art and cultural programme, community engagement, volunteer recruitment and the launch of ticket sales.

Separately, MediaCom Birmingham has been recruited to undertake media planning services as part of the communication services framework.

It is estimated that suppliers working on the 2022 Games will have benefited from an estimated £300 million worth of contracts.

John Crabtree, chairman of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, said: "We are living in uniquely challenging times for business so we're pleased to be able to demonstrate our commitment to local companies by awarding these contracts.

"We remain focused on making sure that we use this once-in-a-lifetime event to bring benefits to Birmingham and the region.

"Of course, this has become absolutely essential today.

"Adding these businesses to our marketing and creative services framework is just the start and our procurement drive continues at full speed.

"Backing local business is just one of the ways the games can help to benefit the local economy and local people."
