Birmingham City star and Cardiff City fan favourite Neil Etheridge in hospital with Covid-19

Birmingham City goalkeeper and former Cardiff City star Neil Etheridge is in hospital receiving treatment for coronavirus, the Midlands club has confirmed.

The Philippines international is a firm fan favourite in the Welsh capital following his exploits in a Bluebirds shirt.

He was signed on a free transfer by Neil Warnock and enjoyed a successful four-year stint in the Welsh capital which took in promotion to the Premier League and winning the club's Player of the Season in the top flight.

The 31-year-old sealed a move to Birmingham City last summer, having been usurped by Alex Smithies when Neil Harris was in charge, however he left with thousands of supporters' best wishes.

And those well-wishers will doubtless be out in force once again, getting right behind him as he receives treatment for Covid-19.

Send Neil your well wishes in the comments section below.

Blues technical director Craig Gardner said: "On behalf of the Board, the staff, the players and everyone connected to the club, we’re all behind Neil and willing him on in his battle against Covid-19.

"We’re in constant contact with his close family and will continue to support them in any way we can. "He’s in the best possible hands and we’re hopeful we can all welcome him home at the earliest opportunity."

Cardiff City wrote on Twitter: "We're all with you, @Neil38Etheri6dge!"
