Birmingham City publicly hit back at Garry Monk as feud with ex-Swansea City and Leeds United No 2 Pep Clotet take new twist

Birmingham City have responded in kind to Garry Monk's blast at his former assistant Pep Clotet.

Monk is set to face off against the Spaniard on Wednesday night, when Sheffield Wednesday play Birmingham City at Hillsborough.

Clotet was Monk's No.2 at Swansea City , Leeds United and Birmingham before he succeeded him at St Andrew's, and their relationship has apparently detriorated since.

At his pre-match press conference, at Clotet, saying: "In terms of the... I don't know what it is, the interim caretaker head coach?  I'm not sure what his title is. But... I don't speak with him.

"I think what’s most important to me when I’m assembling a staff around me, to work with me, the key for me is to give them opportunity. You show them complete trust and you hope they repay that trust with hard work and loyalty.

"Sadly not everyone has those values in their character. Some choose to pursue their own opportunities in the worst possible way.

"I think the most important thing for me is you live and you learn.

"Unfortunately for me I didn’t listen to a lot of people within football circles who warned me about the type of character he is, but, yeah, that’s an error in judgement from myself. But anything in life, you live and you learn.

"It was an error in judgement by me, but it’s a mistake I won’t make in the future. That's what you have to do, you have to move on from that."

Now Clotet's club have responded to Monk's words, tweeting: "We tried to find comments from our 'Interim Caretaker Head Coach' speaking without class about tomorrow's game. We couldn't.

"In the meantime, it's always nice to hear something from the opposition manager. Garry, you want to come?!"
