Birmingham City chief makes Jude Bellingham comparison with Leeds United signing Amari Miller

Leeds United may have signed the next Jude Bellingham according to the head of academy at Birmingham City.

Amari Miller became the Whites' first summer signing on Monday, paying an undisclosed fee for the 18-year-old winger.

Miller has penned a four-year deal at Elland Road after rejecting a new deal at St Andrew's and will initially play for Mark Jackson’s under-23 side in Premier League 2 Division One.

The youngster, who broke into the first-team at Birmingham under Lee Bowyer at the end of last season, has already spoken about the vision Victor Orta sold for the club, which has become a common theme.

Over the last two summer windows, Leeds have looked to acquire the best under-23 talent, with Sam Greenwood and Joe Glehardt the best captures from last year's recruitment drive.

Miller is the latest hot talent to come out of Birmingham, most recently following Bellingham, who joined Borussia Dortmund last summer.

The England midfielder turns 18 on Tuesday and has starred in the Champions League for the Bundesliga side, as well as featuring for his country at Euro 2020.

Speaking in May to our sister title, BirminghamLive, Birmingham's head of academy Mike Dodds outlined his hope that Miller would follow Bellingham, Nathan Redmond and Demari Gray as their next brightest talent to break into the first team.

“It was a balance between promoting from within and recognising which needed to advertise and see who else was interested,” Dobbs said when discussing Birmingham's external academy recruitment.

“One thing I would say is the applicants for the roles that have gone out, the standard across the board has been so high.

“The people coming in are good practitioners, which is only going to enhance the programme.

“As regards young players, you can recruit nationally but the point I am trying to make to the recruitment staff and people around the football club is we have got to keep some core values around the club – giving local boys the opportunity to play for our first team.

“A Demarai Gray, a Nathan Redmond, a Jude Bellingham are all Birmingham fans, they are all Birmingham kids and Amari Miller will hopefully be the next one – a Birmingham City fan, a Birmingham City boy.

“While we are going to have our challenges because the standard of the games is going to go up, we still have to maintain what we want to do, which is to get local boys in the first team.

“We have to expand our pool, of course, we do to stay competitive but our focus has got to be getting the best local boys in our area, in our programme and I think what Cat One does for our local boys is to show a signal of intent.”
