Birmingham City boss reflects on missing out on Benik Afobe as opponents Bristol City beat them to Stoke City striker

Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet insists he is happy with his club's business in the transfer window despite missing out on a striker.

The Blues were keen to add an attacker to their squad on deadline day and Birmingham Live reports they launched a late bid to sign Newcastle United man Dwight Gayle.

They were also linked with Stoke City striker Benik Afobe but were beaten to the loan signing of the 26-year-old by Bristol City.

In a twist of fate, Clotet's side now play the Robins on Saturday, with Afobe potentially in line to make his debut.

Yet, in his pre-match press conference, Clotet said he was satisfied at the business done, even if he would have liked another striker.

He said: "I am happy with the business we have done, not all the transfer targets came in, but you can’t have everything, I am so focused on getting everyone together, getting the group to know each other and making sure they know what it means to play for this club.

"The transfer window has given us options, the new lads will make the squad more competitive, more flexible and more dynamic.

"The lads are hungry to achieve results, I’ve seen it in all of our players - our captain, the seniors and the youngsters.

"As a coach, you want to have all the forwards you can, we landed a lot of the players we wanted to land, now it is time to work and put that focus on the pitch and make sure we build on what we did last season and push this club forward."
