Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet gives big update on Cardiff City target Isaac Vassell

Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet admits Cardiff City target Isaac Vassell is close to leaving the club.

Reports on Tuesday night suggested that the Bluebirds had made a move for his signature as they look to follow up the signing of Robert Glatzel and further add to Neil Warnock's attacking options.

Vassell travelled to Birmingham's Carabao Cup defeat to Portsmouth just hours after those reports, but wasn't named in the matchday squad as the Blues went down 3-0 at Fratton Park.

And, speaking after the defeat, Clotet revealed that the 25-year old was on the verge of an exit from St Andrew's.

"Isaac travelled with us and was close to having some movements," he said.

"The club notified me of that and it was not appropriate to use him.

"I think Vass is a striker who can bring speed to the game, obviously that's something other players can't bring.

"It's difficult to make an evaluation now because he was injured the whole of last season and he came back from injury at the end of the season.

"It's difficult to assess the loss."
